Catherine Weldon, a portrait painter from 1890s Brooklyn, travels to Dakota to paint a portrait of Sitting Bull and becomes embroiled in the Lakota peoples' struggle over the rights to their land.

The body of a young woman is discovered in the icy river. The investigation is led by Zawieja for whom solving the case will be a fight for herself.

The story follows Ozan, a young idealistic doctor, whose life takes a dramatic turn when his path unexpectedly crosses with Kenan, one of Turkey's most powerful crime lords.
